Because hundreds of active as well as retired circus families lived here for generations, the town of Sarasota in Florida has been known as the Circus Capital of the World and also popularly nicknamed 'Circus City'.
It all started in 1927 when the Ringling brotthers from the worldwide famous Ringling Bros Circus adopted Sarasota as their winter quarters. For many years the show trains rolled into town every november making circus an integral part of the social and economic life of Sarasota.
Every november or so, circus people keep this tradition alive by coming back to their homes and caravans for a few months, to rest during the harsh american winter and take advantage of the warm climate of Florida to rehearse their new shows, bringing home with them their animals and equipments.
